Regular Season Round 9: Brest - BC Minsk 40-89

Bottom-ranked Brest (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 89-40 loss to third ranked Tsmoki-Minsk (7-2) in Brest on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Brest's 22. Tsmoki-Minsk forced 32 Brest turnovers and outrebounded them 36-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Brest's players. The best player for the winners was center Yana Makutsa (196-2004) who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Forward Katsiaryna Karpuk (185-1999) chipped in 17 points. Tsmoki-Minsk's coach Andrey Vavleu felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Anastasia Babak (180-2002) who recorded 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Lyudmila Karinchuk (173-1995) added 10 points respectively. Tsmoki-Minsk have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 7-2 record having just two point less than leader Gorizont. Brest at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Tsmoki-Minsk's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Minsk Gorizont 2.
