Regular Season Round 6: GTK Gdynia - AZS UW 54-58

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked GTK Gdynia (3-2) was defeated at home by sixth ranked AZS UW (4-2) 58-54 on Saturday. AZS UW outrebounded GTK Gdynia 46-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. Zuzanna Wrzesien (172-1996) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Izabela Zdrodowska (185-1998) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was power forward Marta Marcinkowska (182-1998) with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Nikola Tomasik (168-2005) scored 8 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. GTK Gdynia's coach Anna Talarczyk tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. AZS UW have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Plock and Olsztyn. Loser GTK Gdynia keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. AZS UW will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GTK Gdynia will play against the league's leader Pabianice (#1) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the EBLK just one year after relegation.
