Regular Season Round 5: Leppavaaran P. - PeU-Basket 72-81

The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest PeU-Basket's (4-1) road victory over 4th placed Leppavaaran P. (3-2) 81-72 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Leppavaaran P.. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 44-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Leppavaaran P. outrebounded PeU-Basket 43-31 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Tyrell Carroll (180, college: Angelo St.) who scored 25 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Forward Patrik Poutiainen (198-2001) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Samppa Maki (193-2001) produced 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Akseli Hartikainen (195) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. PeU-Basket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PuHu Juniorit and JyWe. Leppavaaran P. at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. PeU-Basket is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Karkkila (#16) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Leppavaaran P. will play against the league's second-placed JyWe (#2) in Jyvaskyla and is hoping to win this game.
