Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Vimpelin Veto and 7th ranked Marsky Helsinki had identical 3-4 record. This time Vimpelin Veto used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Helsinki 79-74 on Wednesday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Marsky Helsinki won third quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Marsky Helsinki outrebounded Vimpelin Veto 44-32 including 29 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American forward Shayla Cooper (188-1995, college: Ohio St.) who scored that evening 22 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Tynice Martin (180-1997, college: WVU) supported her with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Even 31 points by the former international guard Kati Ollilainen (173-2003) did not help to save the game for Marsky Helsinki. Forward Fiia Hellsten (183-2005) added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Vimpelin Veto (4-4) moved-up to fifth place. Loser Marsky Helsinki dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Vimpelin Veto will meet bottom-ranked Catz Lappeenranta (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Marsky Helsinki will play against the league's leader Peli-Karhut (#1) and hope to secure a win.
