Rather expected game when 5th ranked Kouvottaret (3-5) lost to second ranked Peli-Karhut (7-1) in Kouvola 66-77 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Peli-Karhut. Kouvottaret managed to win second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Kouvottaret to just 4 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Kouvottaret 39-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by forward Roosa Kosonen (183-2000) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Islands-American swingman Natalie Day (182-1990, college: Portland) supported her with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 5 rebounds by center Heta Aijanen (186-1995) did not help to save the game for Kouvottaret. American swingman Tierra Hodges (175-1998, college: Furman) added 11 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Kouvottaret's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Kouvottaret lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Peli-Karhut will meet Marsky Helsinki (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Kouvottaret will play against Forssan Alku and hope to secure a win.
