Regular Season Round 7: Barna - Maresme 63-71

Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Barna (3-4) was defeated at home by first ranked Maresme (9-4) 71-63 on Saturday. Maresme forced 21 Barna turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 26 on the defensive glass. Guard Irene Broncano (183-2004) fired 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Paula Curto (175-1997) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Emma Pey (-2003) produced 14 points and 9 rebounds and Carla Grau (-1998) added 7 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Maresme have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-4 record. Newly promoted Barna dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with GEIG and Almeda. Maresme will meet at home GEIG (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Barna will play again against the league's leader Maresme in Barcelona and hope to secure a win.
