There was no surprise in Vitebsk where bottom-ranked Gomel (0-10) was crushed by fourth ranked Rubon (5-5) 88-62 on Saturday. Rubon dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Gomel's 30. Rubon had a 35-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Gomel's players. Ukrainian point guard Ernesto Tkachuk (190-1994, agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international guard Maksim Shustov (188-1986) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Rubon's coach Ruslan Baidakov felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was point guard Aliaksandr Yasevich (185-2001) with 12 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and Russian center Mikhail Pakhryaev (206-2000) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Five Rubon and four Gomel players scored in double figures. Rubon maintains fourth place with 5-5 record. Gomel lost their tenth game in a row. They still close the standings with ten games lost. Rubon will meet at home Tsmoki II (#5) in the next round. Gomel will play against the league's leader Borisfen and hopes to get finally their first victory.
