There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Avila (2-4) edged at home 9th ranked Betanzos (2-4) 62-59 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for Argentinian forward Alejo Maggi (203-2002) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds. Forward Jose Luis Ibanez (198-2000) accounted for 12 points for the winning side. Point guard Jorge Abelleira (180-1997) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and center Marcos Rozas (202-1983) added 9 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Betanzos in the defeat. Betanzos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Avila moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 10 other teams including defeated Betanzos. Avila will meet at home higher ranked Xiria (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Betanzos will play against Obradoiro S. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
