Regular Season Round 9: Walbrzych - WKK Wroclaw 76-74
Date: November 13, 2022
There was no surprise in Walbrzych where 12th ranked WKK (3-6) was edged by sixth ranked Gornik (6-3) 76-74 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gornik made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Gornik outrebounded WKK 41-29 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international center Piotr Niedzwiedzki (211-1993) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Guard Bartosz Majewski (193-1997) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Tomasz Ochonko (183-1986, agency: BIG) who recorded 17 points and 6 assists and swingman Maksymilian Wilczek (197-2004) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. WKK's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gornik. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Kolobrzeg. Loser WKK keeps the twelfth position with six games lost. They share it with Opole and Pelplin. Gornik will meet at home SGH (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. WKK will play against AZS PO in Opole and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
