Regular Season Round 6: Zagreb - Banovici 74-38
Date: November 16, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Bosnian Banovici (2-4) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Croatian Zagreb (2-4) 74-38 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Zagreb led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Banovici to just 4 points in second quarter. Zagreb held Banovici to an opponent 21.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Zagreb forced 21 Banovici turnovers and outrebounded them 47-34 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zagreb made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Lea Miletic (184-1995) who scored 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Guard Katarina Sekulic (175-2004) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Zagreb players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Aaliyah Dunham (165-1999, college: Marshall) who recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Naida Nurkic (190-2001) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zagreb moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Banovici. Banovici lost third consecutive game. Zagreb will meet at home league's second-placed Montana in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Banovici will play against Duga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
