Regular Season Round 10: Seagulls - Kotka 106-75
Date: November 18, 2022
The game in Helsinki supposed to be also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Kotka (5-5) played at the court of fifth ranked Seagulls (6-4). Seagulls smashed Kotka 106-75 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Seagulls. Kotka managed to win third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kotka 54-28 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Seagulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Kotka's players. American power forward Zena Edosomwan (206-1993, college: Harvard) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international guard Lassi Nikkarinen (187-1997, college: Montana St.) supported him with 19 points and 9 assists. Four Seagulls players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Roydell Brown (198-1998, college: McNeese St.) did not help to save the game for Kotka. His fellow American import forward Jordan Giles (198-1998, college: UMKC, agency: One Motive Sports) added 13 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Seagulls have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Kataja. Kotka lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Vilpas and Nokia. Seagulls will meet Lahti (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Kotka will play against Honka in Espoo and hope to secure a win.
