Regular Season Round 9: Hrunamenn - Thor AK 101-94

Bottom-ranked Thor AK (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 101-94 loss to fifth ranked Hrunamenn (5-4) in Fludir on Friday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-15. But Thor AK won second period 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hrunamenn won last quarter 30-24. Hrunamenn outrebounded Thor AK 48-37 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Ahmad Gilbert (200-1996, college: St.Thomas, FL) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the winners and American-Hungarian forward Sam Burt (201-1994, college: FPU) chipped in 28 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Burt is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Hrunamenn's coach Konrad Tota used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Spanish point guard Arturo Fernandez (183-1990, agency: Helping Ballers) with 38 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Baldur Johannsson (195-2001) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Thor AK players scored in double figures. Hrunamenn have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 5-4 record. Loser Thor AK still closes the standings with nine games lost. Hrunamenn will meet higher ranked Hamar (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Thor AK will play against the league's leader Alftanes (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
