Regular Season Round 7: Olympiacos - Panathinaikos 89-74

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Panathinaikos (6-1) in Piraeus on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Olympiacos (7-0) 89-74. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Megan Gustafson (190-1996, college: Iowa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Kylee Shook (193-1998, college: Louisville) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Canadian power forward Emily Potter (196-1995, college: Utah) answered with 24 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Chastity Reed (185-1989, college: UALR) added 17 points and 7 assists in the effort for Panathinaikos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olympiacos have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Panathinaikos at the other side keeps the second position with one game lost. Olympiacos are looking forward to face Proteas (#8) in Voula in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Panathinaikos will play at home against Chania (#6) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
