Regular Season Round 10: Kataja - Kauhajoki 71-81

An interesting game for Kauhajoki (8-2) which played road game in Joensuu against 3rd ranked Kataja (6-4). Second ranked Kauhajoki managed to get a 10-point victory 81-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kataja. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoki. Kataja managed to win second period 21-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kauhajoki won last quarter 26-18. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international Henri Kantonen (198-1997, agency: Blacktop Management) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. International center Daniel Dolenc (205-1993, agency: Blacktop Management) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Kauhajoki's coach Janne Koskimies used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (198-1991, college: Temple) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Kataja. Four Kataja players scored in double figures. Kauhajoki have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Kobrat. Kataja at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Seagulls. Kauhajoki will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kataja will play on the road against Kouvot in Kouvola and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
