Regular Season Round 8: Sokol - Astoria 84-72
Date: November 19, 2022
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifteenth ranked Sokol (2-7) defeated 14th ranked Enea Astoria (1-7) in Lancut 84-72 on Saturday. Sokol outrebounded Enea Astoria 48-29 including 35 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American forward Corey Sanders (188-1997, college: Rutgers) who scored that evening 19 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Delano Spencer (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even 15 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by American-Dominican point guard Eddy Polanco (193-1994, college: SE Louisiana) did not help to save the game for Enea Astoria. American forward Benjamin Simons (203-1991, college: Drake) added 14 points for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Enea Astoria's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sokol moved-up to fourteenth place. Enea Astoria lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Twarde Pierniki. Sokol will meet at home higher ranked GTK (#11) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Enea Astoria will play against the league's leader WKS Slask (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
