There was a surprise result when seventeenth ranked Manresa (2-6) defeated at home higher ranked Baskonia (5-3) 93-80 on Sunday. Manresa dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Baskonia's 34. Manresa forced 20 Baskonia turnovers. Strangely Baskonia outrebounded Manresa 39-26 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by Italian-American point guard Frankie Ferrari (185-1995, college: USF) who scored that evening 23 points, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and American point guard Jerrick Harding (185-1998, college: Weber St.) supported him with 13 points. Four Manresa players scored in double figures. Even 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by American guard Darius Thompson (193-1995, college: WKU) did not help to save the game for Baskonia. Estonian center Maik-Kalev Kotsar (211-1996, college: S.Carolina) added 13 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Manresa moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Baskonia dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Unicaja and Granada. Manresa will meet league's second-placed Gran Canaria in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Baskonia will play against Girona and hope to secure a win.
