Regular Season Round 12: Pyrinto - Kataja 106-83

We should mention about the upset which took place in Tampere, where higher ranked Kataja (7-5) was outleveled in a road game by tenth ranked Pyrinto (4-6) 106-83 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Pyrinto. Kataja managed to win second period 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was also dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Daytone Jennings (206-1997, college: CSUSB) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 8 rebounds and guard LJ Thorpe (196-1999, college: UNC Asheville) who added 20 points and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Lamonte Turner (188-1997, college: Tennessee) with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Five Pyrinto and four Kataja players scored in double figures. Kataja's coach Petri Virtanen gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Pyrinto moved-up to ninth place. Loser Kataja keeps the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Kotka. Pyrinto will meet Lahti (#10) on the road in the next round. Kataja will play against Kotka (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
