There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Almansa (3-5) defeated at home 11th ranked Melilla (3-5) 70-64 on Saturday. Almansa dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Melilla's 22. The best player for the winners was Argentinian-Italian guard Mateo Diaz (186-2002) who scored 19 points. Guard Sergi Costa (189-1996) chipped in 8 points and 4 assists. Senegalese center Bamba Fall (215-1986, college: SMU, agency: Players Group) produced 8 points and 8 rebounds and American Alexander Thompson (203-1995, college: Samford) added 13 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Almansa moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Caceres and Melilla. Almansa will meet higher ranked Valladolid (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Melilla will play against Oviedo (#18) and hope to secure a win.
