Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Baskonia B (1-7) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Ponferrada (5-3) 87-76 on Saturday. Ponferrada outrebounded Baskonia B 37-25 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Jorge Martinez (185-1996) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Alejandro Jorda (193-1995, college: Cuesta JC) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Venezuelan forward Franger Pirela (187-2002) produced 13 points and American-Armenian guard Corey Silverstrom (196-1995, college: Chico St.) added 11 points respectively for the hosts. Five Baskonia B players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ponferrada moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gran Canaria 2 and Navarra. Baskonia B lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Ponferrada will meet at home Tormes (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Baskonia B will play against Navarra in Pamplona and hope to win that game.
