Regular Season Round 9: Rieti Real - Matelica 88-61
Date: November 26, 2022
Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Matelica (0-9) was rolled over on the road by second ranked Rieti Real (8-1) 88-61 on Saturday. Rieti Real dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Matelica's 24 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Matelica 44-26 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rieti Real looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Marco Spanghero (185-1991) who scored 17 points. Swingman Riccardo Chinellato (198-2000, agency: Players Group) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Antonio Gallo (182-2000, agency: Players Group) who recorded 7 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized Nigerian power forward Emmanuel Enihe (199-1998, agency: Players Group) added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rieti Real keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Matelica lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with nine games lost. They share the position with Langhe Roero and Pozzuoli. Rieti Real will meet Jesi (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Matelica will play against Empoli (#15) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
