Regular Season Round 7: Ionikos - Apollon P. 79-75

There was a small surprise in Aigaleo where tenth ranked Ionikos (2-5) defeated 8th ranked Apollon P. (2-5) 79-75 on Sunday. Ionikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Deontae Hawkins (203-1993, college: Boston Coll., agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-1984) helped adding 17 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international point guard Zois Karabelas (186-2001) responded with 15 points and 6 assists and American guard Ryan Taylor (198-1995, college: Northwestern) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Apollon P. players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ionikos moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Apollon P. Ionikos will meet higher ranked Peristeri (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Apollon P. will play against Kolossos HH (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
