Regular Season Round 9: Mantova - Fortitudo BO 89-80

An interesting game was played in Mirandola where host Mantova (#8) won against 5th ranked Fortitudo BO 89-80 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fortitudo BO. Mantova made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. American forward LaQuinton Ross (203-1992, college: Ohio St.) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Giovanni Veronesi (198-1998, agency: SLN) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Mantova's coach Giorgio Valli allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Matteo Fantinelli (195-1993) with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and power forward Nazzareno Italiano (198-1991) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mantova (4-4) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Fortitudo BO keeps the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Milano Urania and Cividale. Mantova will meet Chiusi (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fortitudo BO will play against Ravenna (#14) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the Serie A just one year after relegation.
