Regular Season Round 9: Palermo - Orzinuovi 61-76

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Palermo (3-6) was defeated at home by leader Orzinuovi (9-0) 76-61 on Sunday. Orzinuovi dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Palermo's 34. They outrebounded Palermo 35-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Nicolas Alessandrini (203-2001) who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Nigerian power forward Destiny Agbamu (203-2003) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Montenegrin Nikola Markus (200-1996) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Valerio Costa (185-1997, agency: SLN) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively. Palermo's coach Marco Verderosa rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Orzinuovi. They maintain first place with 9-0 record, which they share with Vigevano. Palermo lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. They share it with 8 other teams. Orzinuovi will meet at home Lumezzane V. (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Palermo will play against the league's second-placed San Vendemiano (#2) and hope to secure a win.
