Regular Season Round 8: Valur - Keflavik 75-100

Valur (6-1) recorded its first loss in Reykjavik on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by fourth ranked Keflavik (5-2) 100-75. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Valur. The game without a history. Keflavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 38. They outrebounded Valur 44-24 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Keflavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian center Dominykas Milka (203-1992, college: St.Rose, NY) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican guard Eric Ayala (196-1999, college: Maryland) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Kari Jonsson (192-1997, college: Drexel) produced 18 points and 7 assists and Croatian forward Ozren Pavlovic (203-1994, college: Hawaii) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keflavik moved-up to third place, which they share with Breidablik. Defending champion Valur still keeps top position with one game lost. Keflavik is looking forward to face Hottur (#9) in Egilsstadir in the next round where they are favorite. Valur's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena IR.
