Regular Season Round 9: Riga/Juniores - RSU 49-91

One of the most interesting games of round 9 was a derby match between two teams from Latvia. Seventh ranked RSU outleveled host Riga/Juniores (1-8) 91-49. RSU dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Riga/Juniores' 34. RSU forced 21 Riga/Juniores turnovers and outrebounded them 50-24 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Riga/Juniores' players. It was a good game for center Evelina Otto (187-2006) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Forward Luize Septe (180-1999, college: S.Florida) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four RSU players scored in double figures. Forward Sarlote Petersone (173-2003) answered with 6 points and 5 rebounds and Elina Cirule (177-2003) added 9 points in the effort for Riga/Juniores. Riga/Juniores' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. RSU (5-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with Kibirkstis-MRU. Riga/Juniores lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. RSU will play against league's leader Neptunas in Klaipeda in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Riga/Juniores will have a break next round.
