Regular Season Round 10: Spojnia - Stal 89-91

The most exciting game of round 10 in the EBL took place in Stargard. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Spojnia (5-5) to third ranked Stal (8-2) 91-89 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Spojnia. Stal made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game, while Spojnia only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Spojnia 45-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Spojnia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international power forward Damian Kulig (205-1987, agency: BeoBasket) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Jakub Garbacz (197-1994) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). American Jordan Mathews (191-1994, college: Gonzaga) produced 25 points and 4 assists and the former international swingman Karol Gruszecki (198-1989, college: UT Arlington) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Spojnia's coach Sebastian Machowski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Stal maintains third position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Slask. Spojnia at the other side keeps the eighth place with five games lost. Stal are looking forward to face Enea Zastal (#7) in Zielona Gora in the next round. Spojnia will play on the road against Twarde Pierniki in Torun and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
