Regular Season Round 11: Keflavik - Valur 75-84

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Keflavik (10-1) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Valur (8-3) 84-75. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Keflavik. Keflavik trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 21-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-84 at the end of the game. It was a great evening for American guard Kiana Johnson (171-1993, college: Virginia Union) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. International forward Asta Grimsdottir (185-2001, college: HCU) helped adding 10 points and 11 rebounds. Five Valur players scored in double figures. Venezuelan Daniela Wallen (179-1995, college: Okla City) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and Bulgarian point guard Karina Konstantinova (173-1999) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Keflavik's coach Hordur Vilhjalmsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Valur maintains third place with 8-3 record having just two points less than leader Keflavik. Keflavik at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Valur are looking forward to face Grindavik (#5) at home in the next round. Keflavik will play against IR (#8) in Reykjavik and is hoping to win this game.
