Regular Season Round 10: Haukar - Grindavik 78-81

The most exciting game of round 10 in the Subway League took place in Hafnarfjordur. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Haukar (6-4) to seventh ranked Grindavik (5-5) 81-78 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Haukar. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Haukar won second period 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-1990) scored 32 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Damier Pitts (177-1989, college: Marshall, agency: SLN) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Pitts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Lithuanian power forward Norbertas Giga (208-1995, college: JSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks and American point guard Dee Davis (178-1993, college: Xavier) scored 23 points and 5 assists. Grindavik maintains seventh position with 5-5 record. Newly promoted Haukar keeps the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Tindastoll. Grindavik are looking forward to face Thor Thorl (#11) in Thorlakshofn in the next round. Haukar will play on the road against Breidablik (#3) in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
