Regular Season Round 16: Kobrat - Seagulls 82-103
Date: December 16, 2022
An interesting game for Seagulls (11-5) which played road game in Lapua against 4th ranked Kobrat (9-7). Second ranked Seagulls had an easy win 103-82. The game was mostly controlled by Seagulls. Kobrat managed to win fourth quarter 30-28. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 26-of-29 free shots (89.7 percent) during the game. Seagulls outrebounded Kobrat 40-29 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by American swingman Jeffrey Carroll (198-1994, college: OK State) who scored that evening 22 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Lassi Nikkarinen (187-1997, college: Montana St.) supported him with 17 points and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Seagulls' coach Jussi Laakso felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 22 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Danny Pippen (206-1997, college: Kent St.) did not help to save the game for Kobrat. His fellow American import guard KJ Jackson (188-1998, college: UMBC) added 17 points and 6 assists for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Seagulls maintains second position with 11-5 record having just one point less than leader Kauhajoki. Kobrat lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Vilpas. Seagulls will meet at home Kataja (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Kobrat will play against Kouvot and hope to secure a win.
