Very expected game when 16th ranked Tenerife (1-11) was smashed by second ranked Valencia (9-3) in San Cristobal 98-65 on Saturday. Valencia dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tenerife's 24 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Valencia looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Leticia Romero (173-1995, college: FSU) who led the winners and scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Queralt Casas (177-1992) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Four Valencia players scored in double figures. American guard Aisha Sheppard (175-1998, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Green Sports Management) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) added 17 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Tenerife in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valencia have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-3 record having just one point less than leader Girona. Tenerife lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Valencia will meet at home Jairis (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Tenerife will play against Gran Canaria in Las Palmas and hope to win that game.
