Very expected game when 12th ranked Coruna (3-8) was smashed by seventh ranked Arxil (7-5) in Pontevedra 88-57 on Saturday. Arxil forced 20 Coruna turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including 19 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by Portuguese point guard Carolina Bernardeco (168-1997, college: ODU) who scored that evening 22 points and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American forward Heather Forster (188-1996, college: Albany) supported her with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Arxil players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by Eugenia Filgueira (-1995) did not help to save the game for Coruna. American swingman Julia Razo (183, college: HPU) added 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arxil moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lleida. Loser Coruna dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Unicaja. Arxil will meet Logrono (#7) on the road in the next round. Coruna will play against Granada (#14) and hope to secure a win.
