Regular Season Round 11: Reggio Emilia - Venezia 101-115

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Reggio Emilia (2-9) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Venezia (6-5) 115-101 on Sunday. Venezia made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized Uruguayan guard Jayson Granger (188-1989) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 5 assists. International point guard Marco Spissu (184-1995) helped adding 24 points and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American-Hungarian forward Mikael Hopkins (206-1993, college: Georgetown) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Andrea Cinciarini (191-1986) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 15 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Venezia moved-up to seventh place. Reggio Emilia lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. Venezia will meet at home Sassari (#9) in the next round. Reggio Emilia will play against Brescia (#10) and hope to secure a win.
