The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Monaco (11-3) on the court of eighteenth ranked Le Portel on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Le Portel 89-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Monaco. Le Portel made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Monaco 42-28 including a 34-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Dutch forward Emmanuel Nzekwesi (203-1997, college: ORU) stepped up and scored 27 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Algerian guard Nadir Hifi (190-2002) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Mike James (185-1990, college: Lamar) responded with 20 points and 5 assists and Lithuanian center Donatas Motiejunas (213-1990, agency: BeoBasket) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Monaco players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Le Portel (4-9) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Monaco at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Levallois. Le Portel is looking forward to face higher ranked Limoges CSP Elite (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Monaco will play against ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
