Regular Season Round 12: Targu Mures - Sibiu 81-76

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Sibiu (6-5) lost on the road to eighth ranked Targu Mures (3-7) 81-76 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sibiu won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Targu Mures looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-1987) who scored that evening 19 points and 8 assists and Swedish point guard Jonathan Person (190-1993) supported him with 12 points and 6 assists. Five Targu Mures players scored in double figures. Targu Mures' coach George Trif used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 24 points and 5 rebounds by Latvian Roberts Blumbergs (208-1998, college: GCU) did not help to save the game for Sibiu. American forward Monyea Pratt (196-1985, college: Stillman) added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Newly promoted Targu Mures maintains eighth position with 3-7 record. Loser Sibiu dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Craiova and Galati. Targu Mures will meet higher ranked Ploiesti CSM (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sibiu will play against the league's leader Cluj Napoca where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
