Very predictable result when fifth ranked Sassari (10-4) outscored on the road 13th ranked Brescia (1-13) 102-80 on Monday. Sassari dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Brescia's 28. They outrebounded Brescia 48-35 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sassari looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Swedish forward Elin Gustavsson (190-1993, college: Colorado St.) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Polish guard Anna Makurat (184-2000, college: UConn) chipped in 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Guard Carlotta Zanardi (180-2005) responded with 25 points and 6 assists and Croatian center Lorena Molnar (188-1998) scored 24 points. Five Sassari and four Brescia players scored in double figures. Brescia's coach Stefano Zanardi gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Sassari moved-up to fourth place, which they share with San Giovanni. Brescia lost ninth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Valdarno. Sassari will meet at home bottom-ranked Valdarno (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brescia will play against Ragusa and hope to win that game.
