Regular Season Round 19: Kataja - Korihait 94-59

Very expected game when 12th ranked Korihait (4-15) was smashed by third ranked Kataja (12-7) in Joensuu 94-59 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Kataja. Korihait managed to win second period 18-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kataja dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Korihait's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Korihait's players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) who led the winners and scored 32 points and 6 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (198-1991, college: Temple) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four Kataja players scored in double figures. Canadian forward Prince Oduro (203-1998, college: Detroit) came up with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian-Nigerian guard Grant Audu (196-1998, college: UBC, agency: Blacktop Management) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Korihait in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kataja maintains third place with 12-7 record having three points less than leader Kauhajoki. Loser Korihait stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Kataja will meet at home Nokia (#7) in the next round. Korihait will play against Pyrinto (#9) in Tampere and hope to secure a win.
