Regular Season Round 15: Haukar - IR 99-52
Date: January 4, 2023
Bottom-ranked IR (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 99-52 loss to second ranked Haukar (13-2) in Hafnarfjordur. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Haukar led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 28. Haukar forced 30 IR turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by IR's players. It was a good game for the former international forward Eva Kristjansdottir (186-1997) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. Guard Solrun Gisladottir (180-1996, college: Co.Georgia) contributed with 25 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Estonian swingman Greeta Uprus (177-1994) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds and forward Anika Hjalmarsdottir (176-1997) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for IR. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-2 record behind leader Keflavik. Newly promoted IR still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Haukar will play against Valur (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round, which may be the game of the day. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Fjolnir.
