Regular Season Round 15: Grindavik - Fjolnir 94-79

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Fjolnir's (4-11) road loss to fifth ranked Grindavik (6-9) 79-94. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. Fjolnir was better in fourth quarter 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Grindavik players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard Danielle Rodriguez (177-1993, college: Utah) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. Slovenian forward Elma Dautovic (187-2001, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Grindavik's coach Thorleifur Olafsson used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-1988) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and Lithuanian guard Urte Slavickaite (171-1997) added 15 points and 7 assists in the effort for Fjolnir. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Grindavik maintains fifth place with 6-9 record. Fjolnir lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 11 games lost. Grindavik will play against higher ranked Njardvik (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena IR.
