There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Targu Jiu (1-10) beat at home their close opponent Miercurea Ciuc (2-10) 67-63 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Miercurea Ciuc won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Targu Jiu made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Targu Jiu made 7 blocks. Canadian Shamiel Stevenson (198-1998, college: Nebraska, agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Octavian Ilie (190-2003) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds. Targu Jiu's coach Claudiu Alionescu used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game.
