Regular Season Round 12: Hottur - Haukar 83-97
Date: January 5, 2023
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Haukar (8-4) won against 9th ranked Hottur (5-7) in Egilsstadir 97-83 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Hottur managed to win fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 58.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Lithuanian power forward Norbertas Giga (208-1995, college: JSU) who scored that evening 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and American point guard Dee Davis (178-1993, college: Xavier) supported him with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Haukar players scored in double figures. Even 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) by Spanish forward Juan Luis Navarro (198-1991) did not help to save the game for Hottur. Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Knezevic (205-1987) added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Haukar maintains fourth position with 8-4 record. Hottur at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Stjarnan. Haukar will meet Thor Thorl (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Hottur will play against the league's second-placed Njardvik and hope to secure a win.
