Very expected game when 14th ranked Valdarno (1-14) lost on the road to fourth ranked Sassari (11-4) 89-75 on Saturday. Sassari made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Sassari outrebounded Valdarno 45-19 including a 31-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Joyner Holmes (191-1998, college: Texas) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Polish guard Anna Makurat (184-2000, college: UConn) accounted for 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Sassari players scored in double figures. Australian guard Madeleine Garrick (180-1992) came up with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian-Hungarian forward Tijana Krivacevic (196-1990) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Valdarno in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sassari maintains fourth place with 11-4 record. Valdarno lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. They share it with Brescia. Sassari will meet Lucca (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
