Regular Season Round 13: Betanzos - Covadonga 104-80

Rather predictable result when eleventh ranked Betanzos (5-7) rolled over at home bottom-ranked Covadonga (0-12) 104-80 on Sunday. Betanzos dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Covadonga's 28. They outrebounded Covadonga 59-27 including a 37-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Betanzos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American power forward Joseph Smoyer (211-1998, college: Chaminade) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side and guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-1989) accounted for 26 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Diego Cuetos (-2004) came up with 18 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and Jorge Fernandez (-1999) added 12 points respectively for Covadonga in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Betanzos moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 12 other teams. Covadonga lost their twelfth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 12 games lost. They share the position with Jorge Juan. Betanzos will meet Estrada (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Covadonga will play against La Flecha and hopes to get finally their first victory.
