Regular Season Round 15: Araski - Valencia 43-96
Date: January 8, 2023
Rather predictable result in Vitoria-Gasteiz where second ranked Valencia (13-3) smashed 5th ranked Araski (9-7) 96-43 on Sunday. Valencia dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Araski's 24. Valencia forced 23 Araski turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Lauren Cox (193-1998, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Cristina Ouvina (173-1990) chipped in 13 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Four Valencia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Tanaya Atkinson (183-1996, college: Temple) who recorded 9 points and Senegalese center Maimouna Diarra (198-1991) added 9 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Valencia. They maintain second place with 13-3 record having just one point less than leader Girona. Loser Araski keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Gernika. Valencia will meet at home Cadi La Seu (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Araski will play against Estudiantes and hope to secure a win.
