Very important is a home loss of third ranked Zaragoza (11-5) against fourth ranked Avenida (11-5) on Sunday night. Host Zaragoza was defeated by Avenida in Zaragoza 76-62. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Zaragoza. Avenida made 24-of-28 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for Nigerian-American forward Michaela Onyenwere (183-1999, college: UCLA) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Greek forward Maria Fasoula (196-1997, college: Vanderbilt) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Five Avenida players scored in double figures. The former international forward Vega Gimeno (185-1991, college: RMU) came up with 15 points and 5 assists and guard Mariona Ortiz (183-1992) added 5 points and 6 assists respectively for Zaragoza in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Zaragoza. Avenida will play against Gernika (#6) at home in the next round. Zaragoza will play against Ensino in Lugo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
