Regular Season Round 15: Ragusa - Brescia 79-53
Date: January 8, 2023
Very predictable result when seventh ranked Ragusa (9-6) rolled over at home 13th ranked Brescia (1-14) 79-53 on Sunday. They outrebounded Brescia 41-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Ragusa looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for British-American power forward Kristine Anigwe (193-1997, college: California) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. Latvian center Kristine Vitola (196-1991, college: UTEP) accounted for 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Four Ragusa players scored in double figures. Guard Carlotta Zanardi (180-2005) came up with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Shaquanda Miller-McCray (193-1998, college: Georgia St.) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Brescia in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ragusa. They moved-up to sixth place. Brescia lost their tenth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Valdarno. Ragusa will meet higher ranked Venezia (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brescia will play against Faenza (#10) and hope to win that game.
