Regular Season Round 15: Real Madrid - Gran Canaria 105-85
Date: January 8, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Gran Canaria (8-7) was rolled over on the road by third ranked Real Madrid (12-3) 105-85 on Sunday. Real Madrid made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized Cape Verdean center Walter Tavares (220-1992) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 5 blocks (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). French center Vincent Poirier (213-1993) helped adding 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (215-2002) with 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international Miquel Salvo (205-1994) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Barca and Baskonia. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with Rio Breogan and Bilbao. Real Madrid is looking forward to face Granada (#14) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Gran Canaria will play against Fuenlabrada (#16) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
