There was no surprise when 16th ranked Le Portel (5-12) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Chorale de Roanne (8-9) 79-68 on Friday. Chorale de Roanne forced 21 Le Portel turnovers. Strangely Le Portel outrebounded Chorale de Roanne 40-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. American swingman Ronald March (196-1993, college: Philander Smith) stepped up and scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Yannis Morin (208-1993) chipped in 10 points. March is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Chorale de Roanne's coach Jean-Denys Choulet used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ivorian-American swingman Charles Abouo (196-1989, college: BYU) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Montenegrin center Zoran Nikolic (212-1996, agency: BeoBasket) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Chorale de Roanne moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Strasbourg and Paris. Loser Le Portel dropped to the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. Chorale de Roanne will meet Pau-Lacq-Orthez (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Le Portel will play against Limoges CSP Elite and hope to secure a win.
