Very expected game when 15th ranked Zaragoza (4-12) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Tenerife (12-4) 87-83 on Saturday. Tenerife made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Jaime Fernandez (186-1993) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-1989) who added 21 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side Icelandic center Tryggvi Hlinason (215-1997) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and American guard Justinian Jessup (201-1998, college: Boise St.) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Tenerife maintains fourth position with 12-4 record. Loser Zaragoza keeps the fifteenth place with 12 games lost. Tenerife will meet at home bottom-ranked Real Betis (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Zaragoza will play against Valencia and hope to secure a win.
