Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Melilla (8-8) defeated 10th ranked Tormes (6-10) in Salamanca 85-67 on Sunday. Melilla dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tormes' 18. They outrebounded Tormes 37-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American-Israeli guard Micah Elan (193-1997, college: Pomona-Pitzer, agency: Helping Ballers) who scored that evening 19 points and 4 assists and power forward Carlos Poyatos (207-1994) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Melilla players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 5 rebounds by American guard Nolan Bertain (193, college: Idaho) did not help to save the game for Tormes. American-Armenian forward Zachary Tavitian (203-1999, college: W.New England) added 19 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Melilla have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 8-8 record, which they share with La Roda. Newly promoted Tormes keeps the tenth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Real Canoe and Moron. Melilla will meet at home higher ranked Navarra (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tormes will play against the league's second-placed Clavijo (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
