Regular Season Round 9: Villeneuve - Angers 84-69

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Angers (3-6) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Villeneuve (6-2) 84-69 on Sunday. Villeneuve outrebounded Angers 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Kennedy Burke (185-1997, college: UCLA) stepped up and scored 31 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Ivorian center Kariata Diaby (192-1995) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Villeneuve's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American swingman Jasmine Bailey (176-1990, college: UIC) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Alexis Peterson (173-1995, college: Syracuse) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Villeneuve maintains fourth place with 6-2 record. Loser Angers keeps the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Hainaut and Landes. Villeneuve will meet Roche (#5) in the next round. Angers will play against Flammes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
